Set up Portal in 5 minutes

You have access to the private beta. Three steps and your agent will be designing in Figma.

1
Plugin

Add the plugin to Figma

Download the archive and unzip it anywhere on your computer. Then in Figma Desktop:

1. Plugins → Development → Import plugin from manifest...
2. Select the manifest.json from the unzipped folder

Requires Figma Desktop — the plugin doesn't work in the browser version.

Download portal-plugin.zip
2
Server

Install the server

One command in your terminal. It installs the server, finds your AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex), and configures everything automatically.

npx figma-portal install

On macOS the server starts automatically on login — no need to run it manually. Requires Node.js 18+.

3
Design

Start designing

Open any file in Figma and launch the plugin:

1. Plugins → Development → Portal
2. Green status in the plugin = server connected
3. Open your AI agent and ask it to design something

You're all set

Start with this prompt — it's a short demo that shows what Portal can do. Copy it and paste into your AI agent.

Build a page in Figma that introduces Portal — by being built with Portal, live, right now.

Every run produces a completely different design. Own that throughout.

Find your visual direction first. Look for inspiration, set up style, palette, type, spacing. Make it your own and unique. Then start.

The tone: Portal talking to a designer friend. Casual, confident, warm.

Introduce yourself, then shut up and build. Something complex, detailed, impressive. Right away. The design is the introduction — go all out.

One short line: you just did that. Then — one piece of UI in several completely different styles. Not just colors — different structure, spacing, mood, copy. Each should feel like a different designer made it.

Next: you work with their design system too — their variables, tokens, their rules. You can pick up what's already in the file, create variations, evolve a style. Show it by building something that feels on-brand and systematic.

Next: everything here was built from code and can become code again. What they're looking at is ready to ship.

End: this page is unique, will never repeat. Let's make something together.

Every block should be rich — details, nuance, secondary elements. Design that rewards zooming in. Break the grid. Less text, more craft.

Artboard 1440 wide. No photos. Work in parallel. Screenshot when done.

Your agent will create an artboard, build the layout, and you'll see it appear on your Figma canvas in real time.
